Cocteau Twins- Milk and kisses

i know, i know, I'm jumping a few years here, and although i would love to post the entire discography here, i must allow you to seek your own treasure. Milk and Kisses was released around 96'. i have heard some say that this at this point CT had lost a lot of their edge but i don't really agree with that. i mean yes, the water here is a little calmer but its still very, very, maritime. I've read that this was one of the last albums to be done for the mercury label and i think they disbanded not to long after this release/tour. don't quote me on that tho. i have to say i don't think there are many voices that trump Elizabeth Fraser's. she is just beautiful in the way she sores. i would really love to hear her guest for Starflyer 59 or something. Tishbite is still my absolute favorite song on here but i love listening to the whole album. this makes for some amazing nighttime driving. Enjoy...
song list is as follows:

Cocteau Twins- Milk and kisses (1996 Mercury Records/Fontana)

01 Violaine
02 Serpentskirt
03 Tishbite
04 Half-gifts
05 Calfinskin Smack
06 Rilkean Heart
07 Ups
08 Eperdu
09 Treasure Hiding
10 Seekers Who Are Lovers

Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll

Blue Bell Knoll was released in 1988. i was in high school teetering between my love or metal and my secret love of shoegazer, new wave and goth. this was also the first one to hit the US for distribution. i love the opening song, "Blue Bell Knoll", as well as "carolina's fingers" and the amazing "For Phoebe Still a Baby". expect more beautiful vocals by Elizabeth Fraser, and amazing work by the rest of the band here. I'm not sure what i can say about this band that i haven't already said about them. these guys are so imaginative, so well thought out,so beautiful sounding, that you would do yourself a disservice by passing them up. take a chance on this band, you'll be glad you did. have i ever steered you wrong? i didn't think so.
song list is as follows:

Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll (1988 4AD Records, Capitol Records)

1. "Blue Bell Knoll" – 3:24

Cocteau Twins- Head Over Heels

ok, so here we go a little to the left again. Cocteau Twins have been a favorite of mine for some time now. this was released in the fall of 83. they were more of a Scotish new wavish dream pop sort of thing. whatever. i loved the sounds and i loved the vocals.I really like the underwater feel i get from listening to Elisibeth's singing, swimming beneath all that reverb, but at the same time, desperate, and emotionally beautiful. some of my faves on this album are 'Sugar Hiccup', 'In Our Angelhood', 'Multifoiled' and 'My Love Paramour'. im going to post a few more releases by them, i would encourage you to give them a shot. if you like stuff that sounds a little like Simple Minds, and a lot like premature shoegazer, with vocals that may or may not remind you of Dolores O'Riordan, then this is your band. if you don't like any of those things, then to hell with you. no im kidding. anyway, enjoy...
song list is as follows:

Cocteau Twins- Head Over Heels (4AD Records 1983)
01. When Mama Was Moth

One Bad Pig- Smash

now i know a lot of people thought this band was crap. i know it. but i love em. they were funny, loud and intense all at the same time. i liked the David Bowie feel to the lyrics, and even tho the distortion sounded like it was on one of those old RAT peddles, it was still great rock. i remember this being one of the only tapes the girls in my youth group liked too. hahaha. i think it was the beat in 'Don't Be Fooled'. it always got the room dancing, with kinda freaked the rest of the church out but whatever. now of course i was totally blown away by 'Isaiah 6', 'Looney Toon' and 'Godarchy' but i don't think i was prepared for 'I'm Not Getting Any Older'. the minute the drums started i was sold on that song, but it was the last part of the song that really got me jumping around and slamming into people. i loved when he just started yelling at the end. it was so cool to here this crazy church guy just yelling it out for God. the best line is "i always feared my dying breath, but i let it out and life was mine.". Pretty cool album. if you got into them then got out, i encourage you to give them another chance. if you never heard them, but have room in your theology for the ridiculous and the beautiful, then check them out, brotha.

One Bad Pig - Smash (Pure Metal) 1989

One Bad Pig- Swine Flew

i loved the second album. i knew from the cover art that it was gonna be fun. there are some freakin great tracks here. 'Red River', 'Hey Punk', and 'Bowl of Wrath' are my favs. i did get a kick out of the Petra cover and thought it was cool that Bob himself did the solo for the track. its cool too that they had so many different guests on this album. it really made it fun to listen to. if you liked the first one, I'm pretty sure your into this one too. enjoy...

Solid State Vol 1

this was released back in '99. i love this sampler, even tho I'm not really into samplers. they tend to pick pretty forgettable tracks but this one had a ton of hits on it. i had actually never heard this version of 'Enthroned' before and i loved it! 'Halo of Winter was also amazing, but at this point in time for me, Embodyment could do no wrong. the only ones i didnt get into were the Spitfire track, and the Warloard track. i loved the TFU track, focal point, overcome...well you get the idea. enjoy!
song list is as follows:

Everdown- Straining

Straining came out on Tooth and Nail around 94. this is a pretty cool album. i really liked the raw guitar tone and the very loose feel of the album over all. i remember hearing "seasons in doubt on the Tooth and Nail video, i think it was with cornerstone footage. my favorite track is "Flown" does anyone know what clip is played at the first of the song? i love that hahaha very pantara-ish in some parts. this is a pretty cool album for those of you who got into the 90's T&N hardcore scene. enjoy!

Whiteheart- Freedom

Freedom came out in 1989. i was blown away by this album, and thought is was then and still is now, a very original album, which i think was the band in part, and the Producer pushing them. a lot of people criticized this album for being too 'prog-rock' or sounding too much like U@ or whatever, but in my opinion christian music really isnt know for its originality for the most part. this seemed like a really well thought out album with some amazing drumming by Chris Hughs.'Sing Your Freedom', and 'Let It Go are my favorite tracks on this album but i dont really think there is a throwawy track on here besides 'Set the Bridge on Fire'. it just seemed a lot like the Tales of Wonder album. lots of good ideas that dont really go anywhere. but Freedom as a whole is one of my favortie rock albums of all time. dont agree? to hell with ya. no im just kidding, i think my blood sugar is low...
song list is as follows:

WhiteHeart- Freedom (1989 Sparrow Records)

Sleeping by the Riverside/ Carry the Dead

Sleeping by the Riverside/Carry the Dead split came out in 99' on the now defunct Takehold Records. the Carry the Dead stuff is ok, but i mainly bought it for the SBTR songs. this is a great group of material here. something to say is one of the best hardcore songs ever released in my opinion. if you havent heard of these guys, check em out. hope you find something you like.

Torn Flesh- Crux of the Mosh.

anyone remember Torn Flesh? i don't either. just kidding. this was a late 80's band that had an auctioneer for a lead singer. at least that's what he sounds like to me. this was an interesting band. I'm not sure whether they were into the music or just the message but whatever. at the time, i liked them cause they were fast. what can i say, i was in high school. now this isn't the entire album , I've only got three tracks here. so enjoy if you want to.

Doosu- Quick Bionic Arms

Doosu stands among the most talented rock bands in North Texas with an ever-increasing national fanbase resulting from intense live performances, constant regional and national touring and exposure stretching across borders to Canada, Australia and Europe. The band took the top spot at the National Grammy Showcase Competition sponsored by N.A.R.A.S. in Los Angeles and has also performed at CMJ, SXSW, and NXNE. They have toured or appeared with the likes of Shiner, Toadies, Season to Risk, Sugar Ray, A Perfect Circle, and Porno For Pyros among others. Doosu offers up a serious brand of straight-ahead rock music with unique and powerful versatility.

so this is an EP called Quick Bionic Arms. For me, this is the best release of Doosu's career. now, i know probably none of you have heard of them, as they were local Dallas TX rock, but this EP is freakin amazing. very cool heavy rock. some of the songs would have totally made them national if they had been professionally mixed and nationally distributed. but then maybe not what do i know? please, please take a chance and download this album i guarantee you will enjoy it. 'Arrow' is an amazing startoff track and Prescious, (my favorite track on the EP)is an awesome rock radio track. give it a shot folks. live a little! end communication.
song list is as follows:

Doosu- Quick Bionic Arms (205 One Ton Records)
01. Arrow (4:09)

DigHayZoose- Magenta Manta Love Tree

DigHayZoose sort of has this funky metal progressive vibe thing going on. the really came into their own with this release. at times its a very Alice In Chains sound, at times its a very Anthrax sound, and at time i don't know what the hell it is. some of the standout tracks on here are 'H8 Machine', 'Dancing In Concert With The Infinite', 'Slatherage', 'Lift', and of course, 'Magenta Manta Love Tree'. Phil's vocals on this album should have won him an award, especially on Lift and Slatherage, but oh well. it would have been interesting to see what DigHayZoose would have evolved into in our present day, but we will always have the loveable H8 Machine. enjoy!
song list is as follows:

DigHayZoose- Magenta Manta Love Tree (1993 Brainstorm Artists International)

01. Beggining
02. Dancing In Concert With The Infinite

My Bloody Valentine- Tremolo

Tremolo came right after glider but i understand was started before the Glider tour and finished afterward. i like this EP cause of " To here knows when" this is a fav of mine cause of Butcher. i think she added so freakin much to this band with her dreamy underwater vocals. Honey Power is also a cool rocker. i think Kevin has made some crazy music in his time, including some of his wackjob solo stuff, but i love every My Bloody Valentine release. enjoy this EP. if you don't got it, get it, if you don't got the bread, take it...

song list is as follows:

My Bloody Valentine- Tremolo (creation Records 1991)

1. To Here Knows When (5:49)

My Bloddy Valentine- Glider

Glider came out around 1990 as a stop gag measure to satisfy the record company till the full length album was released. i love this EP. "Soon" is a cool driving song and "Glider" seems pretty on par with Kevin Shields personality hahaha. actually there isn't a track on here i don't like. "don't ask me why" is an old favorite of mine and "Off your face" is just freakin beautiful. i read that its been said of My Bloody Valentine that, "however decadent one might find the idea of elevating other human beings to deities, My Bloody Valentine, failings and all, deserve more than your respect".

i believe this is true.

song list is as follows:
My Bloody Valentine- Glider (Creation Records 1990)
1. Soon
2. Glider
3. Don't Ask Me Why
4. Off Your Face

Mortal- Fathom

Mortal is kinda a a rock industrial type thing. Fathom came out around 93. i get into this album because of the song rift. i heard it on some christian radio show and i loved it. most of this album i don't really get, but 'Rift', and 'Jill Sent Me' are the best tracks on this album. I'm really surprised that 'Jill Sent me' didn't get some airplay on reg radio. it was good enough to be a mainstream breakout for them i thought, but what the hell do i know. anyway, enjoy the album!

Mortal - Fathom (Intense) 1993

1. "Alive and Awake" (5:42)
2. "Neplusultra" (4:17)

Whitecross- Hammer and Nail

i get so tired of hearing about these guys sounding like Ratt. but seriously that singer back then sounded just like Ratt. anyway, this is a pretty cool album. i know i wasn't the only dude imagining i was playing that hammer and nail solo on my tennis racket! anyway, i heard that Scott kinda tore up his voice and in the later albums he sounds totally different, so who knows. all i know is if your into leather, big hair, big solo's and large print bibles, then Whitecross is the band for you...
song list is as follows:

Whitecross - Hammer & Nail (Pure Metal) 1988

1. "Living on the Edge" (5:11)

Lightforce- 1986-1989

Lightforce 1986 to 1989 contains the Mystical Thieves (Tracks 1-8) and Battlezone albums (Tracks 9-15) plus 2 bonus songs from the 1986 Lightforce Demo. now I've never heard of the Battlezone demo but i was totally sold on the mystical thieves album, even though every review went on and on about it sounding like the recorder it in the bathroom. this is a great album that made me think of Iron Maiden the first time i heard them. 'Metal Missionaries' is a great song with a hilarious ending where they are all talking. the best track to me, (although i freakin love every tack on this album), has to be Babylon. i actually still know that part of revelations word for word. (17:1-5). not that its a great feat or anything that's like, what, 5 verses? anyway, this is a kick ass album for the inclusion of Mystical thieves itself. give it a listen and see where these 'Grind Planets' got their start...
song list is as follows:

LightForce - 1986 to 1989 (Rowe Productions) 2003

1. "Mystical Thieves" (8:05)

Metamorphosis

this is a great remix cd. this came out around 1993. i love the Brainchild and Living Sacrifice remixes. i can do without the Circle of Dust stuff, but anyway, i LOVE 'Black Veil', 'Distorted', and 'Desolate' DJ's death vocals were amazing on this song. very amazing work! i like the audio clip in 'Distorted' about Al Capone being introduced to Prison Life. classic! if you remember this then grab it man, and enjoy!

Nobody Special

hey does anybody remember Nobody Special? i didn't think so. this came out way the hell back in 1987 on Broken records, when christian music was struggling to find something legitimate to offer the world besides stupid Amy Grant. this is a punk band fronted by Pat Nobody. this is a great punk album, about a million times better than the crap being released today. Pat had a great talent for delivery, there isn't a song on here i don't like. check out this interview with Pat. its pretty cool, like Pat.
song list is as follows:

Dysrhythmia- Barriers and Passages

this came out in 06' on Relapse Records. this guitar work on here is insane. anyone who listens to this will probably feel like hanging up the guitar forever. once again, amazing time signatures, very, very interesting, well thought out music. 'Appeared at First'and 'Sleep Decayer' are my favorite songs on the disc. on their myspace it says, "no vocals, no breakdowns, no dancing, no fun!" these guys, next to Training For Utopia, are the most amazing examples of controlled chaos I've ever heard. this disc had a new bassist on it. if you find out they're in town, you need to go see em. they will knock you on your ass.

song list is as follows:
Dysrhythmia- Barriers and Passages (2006 Relapse Records)

1. "Pulsar" - 1:13
2. "Appeared At First" - 3:06

Dysrhythmia- No Interference

Dysrhythmia is a freakin awesome post rock metal band that i saw for the first time Joplin opening for Dillinger Escape Plan(which in my opinion, blew them the hell away). this is no-vocal post rock. sometimes it boarders on metal but is always super, super tasty. there are time signatures galore and at first listen it may seem like its just a cd full of noise, but give it a few more listens. i was blown away by how tight these dudes were when i saw than live. i don't think they ever stopped playing the entire time they were onstage. it was kinda exhausting watching them, but I'll never forget them and I'll get everything they put out. go out right now and get it. if you don't got the bread, take it. enjoy...

song list is as follows:

Dysrhythmia- No Interference (2005 Translation Loss Records)
1. Body Destroyed, Brain Intact - 3:01
2. Craving for Transformation - 4:15
3. No Interference - 7:20
4. Circulatory System Overhaul - 6:34
5. Let You Fall - 10:51
6. Orbiting - 6:59
7. Nutritional Facelift - 3:03
8. Slumlord - 3:59

Deliverance- What A Joke

Deliverance released this CD in 1991. this is a way lighter CD than 'Weapons of our Warfare'. there are a lot of jokes here and a lot of weird songs. i remember reading an interview for 'Stay of Execution" with Jimmy Brown, and he said that he felt that 'What a Joke' was a really weird album for him as well. he said it was all about speed during that album but that he didn't relate to it that well he felt that the faster it got, the more he didn't like it. there are still some very cool moments on this album like the cool joke song, 'Chipped Beef', 'It's the Beat', and 'Attack'. it defiantly has its place in metal history. enjoy!
song list is as follows:

Deliverance - What A Joke (Intense) 1991

1. "Intro" (:18)
2. "Prophet of Idiocy" (3:25)
3. "Pseudo Intellectual" (7:15)

Jerusalem/ Stryken

since i don't have the total albums for both, i thought i would at least post the two songs i have.
1. Jerusalem- in His Majesty's Service: this is a great live track. to me this song has everything you want to hear in a hard rock song, driving rhythms, high energy guitars, great vocals, and a cool organ sound. this was recorded from a tour that was done in Shreveport and Dallas around 83-85'

2. Stryken- Rock On: a really cool rock song. i dig this guys vocals and the cool beat ala 'We Will Rock You'. this came out in 1987 on an album called first strike. i remember reading an article about them saying that they wore body Armour and really glamed it up back then and most stores(christian) would not stock them. i also hear that a remastered version of the album came out, which I'm very interested to here. so check these out and enjoy the tidbit of music for Friday!

song list is as follows:

Deliverance

When Deliverance came on the scene i was still on a total Vengeance high and then these guys came out and i couldnt believe that there was even more good music avalible for christian rock. these guys are amazing. i only followed these guys for 5 albums(the first five) but they were all amazing. this one i read they mikes the guitars several times to get the best and fullest crunch. i love almost every song on here! standouts would be 'Temporary Insanity', 'Jehovah Jirah', and 'The Call'. get this if you're a fan of old school speed metal ala creeping death era. enjoy!
song list is as follows:

Deliverance (Intense) 1989

1. "Victory" (3:44)
2. "No Time" (4:28)

Creation is Crucifixion- Gutter Tech / Allegory of the Algorithm (video)

ok, I'm throwin other stuff in the mix here...

Creation is Crucifixion is a little different. the music is definitely off the charts chaotic, and technical, well thought out, just like the lyrics. according to the band's website, they are summed up in three words: Metal, Theory, Noise. i found this video on the net a few years back in and totally got into them. i do have random tracks I'll post soon, but i thought if you had never heard of them, you should check out this video and see what you think.

Artcore Vol 1

this was a compilation cd released by Tooth and Nail Records back in 96'. really the only reason to get this is for two tracks. 'Evangeline" by lance Hemmingway. this is a great stripped down song. really good lyrics. don't know a damn thing by this dude except what you hear in this track. the other one is 'Leigh and me' by Starflyer 59. now I'm not biased or anything, but i think Starflyer is one of the best bands in history. this is maybe one of the greatest love songs ever written. when you play this, play it loud with the bass turned up. i swear it feels like you just walked thru a tunnel and exited into pure freakin light. there are a few other ok tracks on here, but these two stand out and they make it worth it to own the cd. have a listen...
track list is as follows:

Artcore Vol 1- Tooth and Nail Records (1996)

01. Sorcery - Joy Electric
02. Sowing in the Sun - Rose Blossom Punch

Deliverance- Intense Live Series Vol 1

this is was a sweet little series put out by the now defunct Intense Records. the other bands to do it were Rose, Die Happy, and Tourniquet. this is the only one that's worth a damn in my eyes. anyway, its really cool to me to get to hear bands while they're in the studio. to me every track here is awesome, but the standout has to be 'Surrender'. this is a cover tune originally done by those dudes mistaken for chicks, Stryper. have a listen to this one. it shows a band who is just as tight fooling around as they are cutting a prof album... enjoy!
song list is as follows:

Deliverance - Intense Live Series Vol. 1 (Intense) 1993

1. "in studio" (:53)
2. "Surrender" (5:01)

Training for Utopia- The Falling Cycle

This is the first fruits of Chaos. a buddy of mine back in college introduced me to TFU and called them 'noise core'. I'm not that into labels, there are like a million of them, but noise core does kinda sum them up. this is the first EP they released for Solid State Records back in 97'. while this is not my favorite TFU release, i do like knowing where a band comes from. the lead singer Mavin seems pretty intense and gives you the feeling by the end of the album that whatever comes next is going to blow your damn head off. if you don't got it, get it, if you ain't got the bread, take it. enjoy...
song list is as follows:

Training for Utopia - Falling Cycle (Tooth & Nail)

1. "Falling Cycle" (3:11)
2. "Dead Signal" (3:44)
3. "Pretty Picture Of Lies" (2:03)

L.S.U.- The Grape Prophet

The Grape Prophet was released in 1992, and from what i know of L.S.U., it's the first concept album they released. this is a great album with a ton of great hooks. it takes some investigation to totally understand the lyrical content of the album, but its well worth the investigation. there is a great interview here that explains the meaning behind the album. Mike Knott is the writer and backbone of L.S.U. and has released some freakin amazing work over the years. now, this particular release is no longer avalible except by CDR on Mike's website. its a great listen and i know if you give it a chance, you will totally get into the story line of Ellis and The Grape Prophet. Enjoy!
song list is as follows:

L.S.U.- The Grape Prophet (1992 Blond Vinyl Records)

01. Ellis in the Orchard (4:31)

Jesus Freaks- Socially Unacceptable

Jesus Freaks released this very limited EP in 93. this is a pretty tight little offering. the band has been compared to Metallica in ways but i think that's just due to the vocals. i would have to agree with several opinions that the standout track here is 'Hypocrite'. i have never gotten the chance to see them live but i did see a live video of a performance they did on the Sanctuary Video years ago...anyway, give it a try, so say i.
song list is as follows:

Jesus Freaks-Socially Unacceptable (Narrowpath) 1993

Deliverance- Weapons of our Warfare

Weapons of our Warfare was released in 1990. Deliverance was at the top of their game here. this speed metal band got a little more technical here. the guitar tone is smooth, and rich, like pure fudge. the whole tone of the album is lethal from the drums to the lyrical content. i also love the artwork on here. i heard that in 2008 Retroactive gained the rights to this album, as well as the debut and was able to put out a proper reissue. the new version has updated artwork (i still prefer the original)and remastered sound. i still haven't heard the reissue, but I'm looking for it. the best songs on here are 'Solitude' and 'Flesh and Blood. if used to have this enjoy the reunion and if its your first listen, welcome to the world of Jesus speed metal...
song list is as follows:

Deliverance - Weapons of Our Warfare (Retroactive) 2008

1. "Supplication" (1:48)

Saint- To Late For Living

Saint released this album on Pure Metal back in 89. Richard Lynch, Dee Harrington, and Josh Kramer are the brains behind this Judas Priest type band. i love Saint for the driving guitars and the awesome vocals. Josh Kramer really does an amazing job on this album. they're are tons of standouts here my favorite songs on here are 'On the Street' and 'The War is Over'. 'The Returning' is a great instrumental which shows of some amazing scale work. this is by far my favorite album by Saint.

Horde- Hellig Usvart 10th Anniversary Reissue

Australian Unblack Metal. this is a 2004 re-issue from Rowe Productions. Jayson Sherlock used to be the drummer for mortification, then went on to Paramecium, then released this one album. from what i've read, there was only one show Horde ever played and i've been killing myself trying to find them online. check out this review of the album on The Whipping Post site. enjoy this, its a great helping of black metal from a Christians point of view.
song list is as follows:

Horde- Hellig Usvart 10th Anniversary Reissue (2004)

My Bloody Valentine- Ecstasy and Wine

1987. Ecstasy and Wine is an early release that contains some of the first fruits of what would become a major band at least to me. this is a reissue with The Strawberry Wine single and the Ecstasy EP. there are some great standouts here. 'Safe in your sleep' and 'Claire' are my favorites but i have a lot of love for this album as a whole. its like looking at a picture of a kid and kinda seeing what they're going to look like as an adult. Bilinda Butcher was a new addition and threw in some great vocals that also helped shaped the sound of the band. have a listen and then go by some My Bloody Valentine stuff. you will not be disappointed...
song list is as follows:

My Bloody Valentine- Ecstasy and Wine (1987)

1. Strawberry Wine
2. Never Say Goodbye
3. Can I Touch You
4. She Loves You No Less

Amon Amarth- Thor Arise

Amon Amarth. what a stinkin amazing band. i have heard a lot of people, including myself at one point refer to these guys as Viking Metal, but according to Johan Hegg himself, "We play Death Metal. We write about Vikings so therefor some refer us to Viking metal, but I have no idea what that is. I can't imagine the Viking’s veer into metal at all except on the swords and stuff. And musically, I guess they only played these strange lip instruments and some bongos or whatever." so there you have it. Thor Arise was the first demo released in 1993. the sound is poor, but you get a feel for where this amazing band was headed. i would encourage you to buy everything this band has released. enjoy!
song list is as follows:

Amon Amarth- Thor Arise (1993)
1 "Risen from the Sea" − 5:43
2 "Atrocious Humanity" − 5:54
3 "Army of Darkness" − 5:26
4 "Thor Arise" − 6:30
5 "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" − 4:22

My Bloody Valentine- Feed Me With Your Kiss

Ahhh, like slipping into the ocean or floating in zero gravity, My Bloody Valentine is my secret dream music. i freakin love this band! i fist got into this band around the same time i got into Starflyer 59, but don't take that as a comparison, cause they really don't sound too much alike. Kevin Shields is a totally genius when it comes to music in my opinion. now, it's true that Shoegazer isn't for everyone, but i personally think that every song on here is a winner and if you give it a chance, you may have just found a whole new genre to get into...
song list is as follows:

My Bloody Valentine- Feed Me With Your Kiss (1988)

1. "Feed Me with Your Kiss" – 3:56
2. "I Believe" – 3:01
3. "Emptiness Inside" – 2:50
4. "I Need No Trust" – 3:32

Paradigm Shift

An amazing piece of work that was years ahead of its time! to my knowledge, this is the only release by this group. this is a Dallas based release(hometown), and i first heard it thru a friend way back when it was released in 95. i really like this duo and believe this was the most legitimate release from this genre to the christian market. these guys are very imaginative produce some very infectious trip hop. Overall, this is a very talented and fresh group for Christian music fans or just fans of trance.
song list is as follows:

Paradigm Shift (1995)

01. Grip (6:39)

Sometime Sunday- Stone

i love this first CD. this band is dark grunge all the way. Mikee is a great singer and gets the point across in every song with more emotion that soundgarden or any of those other Seattle crap bands ever did. almost every song on this CD is a standout. the CD closes with a great little acoustic number called home. its such a cool idea for a song, the recording took place on the side of some street with cars passing by and it ends with them walking and talking to each other. classic!
song list is as follows:

Sometime Sunday- Stone (1994)
1. Lie
2. Crawl
3. Blur
4. Guilty
5. Blue
6. Self
7. Reach
8. Take
9. Rope
10. Sleep
11. Home

XL and DBD- Sodom and America

XL & D.B.D.'s 1993 album Sodom and America was probably one of the first outings of rapcore in christian music. at this point, everybody was trying everything, and selling it to the CCM. the only reasons I'm posting this album is for the title track, which contains so freakin awesome vocals by Mark Solomon. XL & Death Before Dishonor we billed as, aggressive Rap/Rock/Hip-Hop/Thrash/Punk. its a very weird album to say the least, but people from my time will remember this coming out. if you find something else on this cd worth checking out, more power to you.
song list is as follows:

XL & DBD - Sodom & America (Brainstorm) 1993

1. "Brother to the Saboteur" (3:02)
2. "Sodom & America" (3:11)

Believer- Extraction from Mortality

i was blown away when i heard Extraction. this is a freakin heavy album. the crunch on these guitars are amazing! this to me is a very agressive, technical thrash/speed album. these guys are fast and very good at riffs. there are only a few songs on here that get a little tiresome, but the rest kick ass! amazing album art too! listen to the song "Torment" the crunch as the song start will knock your teeth out! the vocals are very unique here too. the guys name is Kurt Bachman and he has an amazing voice. prefect for metal in my opinion. give it a listen, you will not be dissapointed!
song list is as follows:

Believer - Extraction from Mortality (R.E.X.) 1989

1. "Unity" (6:39)
2. "Vile Hypocrisy" (5:35)

Scaterd Few- Sin Disease

this is another great crossover punk band. i love this cd it's got its heavy sides to it and its totally uncontrollable. this album was produced by Terry Taylor of Danial Amos fame. this is a really well thought out album in my opinion. there are tons of great moments here and fast, fast songs. Allan Aguirre is the lead vocalist and has a very imaginative voice. i saw him on TV years later on this show called Wife Swap. i don't know if you're ever heard of that show, but i was knocked out of my chair when i saw him on it. anyway, give this cd a listen, its got great lyrics, great vocals, fretless bass(which is freakin awesome) and some great guitar work. enjoy!

Paramaecium- Exhumed Of The Earth

This is the band Jason from Mortification was in after mortification went lame. sorry, changed direction. this is straight up doom metal. its slow, its heavy and its dark. the inclusion of the soprano in the mix is excellent.the rest of the albums pretty much follow the same vein, they're all pretty sweet. after this Jason went on the the black metal tour de force called Horde. anyway enjoy this album, you're going to need a little patience to get thru the whole thing. enjoy!

SFC- A Saved Man In The Jungle

ok so this isn't metal, like at all. whatever, i didn't say i was only going to post metal on here! so anyway, this is SFC, run by Chris Cooper or Super C as he was called back then. this is straight out of the 80's rap, and it was the first release to actually sound good to anyone other than no nothin Christians. now this is a great CD. Chris was basically the visionary here beyond the sample and scratch king, DJ Dove. this has a lot of great tracks, lots of funny moments, and a showcasing of amazing talent. this is the only release by them i was interested in but this did clue me in to several other artists that road the coattails of SFC. this CD will always have a special place in history to me. enjoy!

01 Whatever

Living Sacrifice- Inhabit

This is the third release from Living Sacrifice. they peaked as musicians with this album, in my opinion. where Nonexistant was the uncontrollable brutal extreme release, Inhabit is the Goliath about to kick your ass. i had a hard time believing at first that lance the drummer could play that fast. i mean, he sounded like a machine! it was supersonic destroyer drums. this is a very heavy, dark, and brutal album. after this they started going with whatever the popular metal sound was that day. enjoy this, folks, it'll re-arrange your insides...
song list is as follows:

Living Sacrifice - Inhabit (R.E.X.) 1994

this was one of the first releases for the new christian music label Tooth & Nail. i got this when it came out. this is about the same time i started getting way into Starflyer 59. now, tooth & nail released a ton of junk cause Christians for the most part don't know good music when it punches them in the mouth. but there were a few good releases, those of which i will display here in the future. i liked Wish for Eden. obviously we are not dealing with a musically complexed CD here, but for all its simplicities, they had a cool sound. i also really liked dudes voice. the standout track here is "Oceans".
track list is as follows:

this is the last real cd these guys put out. i like it but not as much as Plastic Soul. this out of the three they released, this one is probably the best produced. the guitars are heavy and clear, drums stand out and there's good energy on here. one of the best freakin tracks is New York City is so Overrated. this song was hell ya from beginning to end. some of the cd is a little hard to listen to, but overall, its a great listen. Seventh Angel- Lament for the Weary

I love Seventh Angel. this is a great, heavy prog thrash band. this album starts of with a kick ass intro, "recollections of a life once lived". i remember a buddy of mine and i would play this intro over and over and over again. this album is defiantly more darker, heavier, and almost sprinkled with a little bit of a grove. they kinda slowed down a little bit on this album, but i think it made them sound heavier. give this one a good listen, its a concept album about finding your way out of abuse. one of the best things about seventh angel is the drummer, Tank. this guy is awesome! his name fits him perfectly. anyway, enjoy!
song list is as follows:

Seventh Angel - Lament for the Weary (Edge/Pure Metal) 1991
