Heavy Righteous Metal (1988)

This compilation came out in '88. i don't think i got it till '89 or '90 i forget. i think this is where i got into Saint and Bride. i remember wondering what the dude from Saint would sound like if he sung painkiller.this was a pretty cool little comp. good songs from pretty good bands. some went on tho more releases and relative success(Bride, WhiteCross). i always wonder what ever happened to bands like Rossanna's raiders and Messiah Prophet? dude Messiah Prophet had the coolest album cover with Master Of The Metal, anyone remember it?

Embodyment- 1993-1996

Hey I know I'm a million years behind with this, but I noticed in the comments that the Embodyment link didn't work, so I just re-upped it here today. sorry about that.

My Bloody Valentine- You Made Me Realize

ahhh, the Sonic holocaust...you know, it wasn't till 2 years ago that i noticed the knife to her neck. thanks, Seth for pointing it out to me. anyway, i love the hell out of this album. its underwater, its dreamy, its totally MBV. if you cant tell, i love shoegaze...i love the was MVB kinda paved the way for the sound and made it to where you can tell a MVB song by the formula they followed here. there isnt a song i don't love and this album and my only regret is that i've never been able to see them live. enjoy!

song list is as follows:
My Bloody Valentine- You Made Me Realize (Creation 1987)

01. You Made Me Realize 3:46

Sacred Warrior- Obsessions

this was released in 91' and it contains some historic songs, in my opinion. 'Wings of a Dream', 'Obsessions', and 'Kamikaze' are some of the best freakin metal songs ever written. i remember seeing them in concert and wondering where the heck Rick Macias was but the addition of John Johnson on rhythm guitar made up for it. this followed Wicked Generations sound and further pushed towards the Prog metal sound, which i thought was cool, and i think no other christian metal band did it better. ok , Winter Olympics are on so enjoy...

song list is as follows:
Sacred Warrior - Obsessions (Intense 1991)

1. "Wings of a Dream" (4:48)
2. "Sweet Memories" (4:31)
3. "Turning Back" (4:11)
4. "Obsessions" (4:46)
5. "Kamikaze" (4:49)
6. "Remember Me" (4:40)
7. "Fire from Heaven" (4:16)
8. "Temples on Fire" (4:03)
9. "Mad Man" (6:13)

Sacred Warrior- Wicked Generation

Wicked Generation came out in 1990 and i have to say i was kinda surprised by it. the sound was a lot different and i remember lots of people complaining about the sound of the first two albums the kick drums, the tone of the guitars, but i thought they were excellent. now that's not to say this album doesn't have its moments; i think 'Minister By Night' is a freakin metal scorcher! this has to be the heaviest song on the album. 'Little Secrets' and 'No Happy endings', which is almost my favorite Sacred Warrior song of all time make this a definite album worth listening to. enjoy...

song list is as follows:
Sacred Warrior - Wicked Generation (Intense 1990)

1. "No Happy Endings" (5:09)
2. "Little Secrets" (6:18)
3. "Standing Free" (5:00)
4. "Are You Ready" (3:05)
5. "Minister by Night" (3:35)
6. "Miss Linda" (4:51)
7. "In the Night" (5:58)
8. "Warriors" (3:13)
9. "Wicked Generation" (4:44)
10. "War Torn Hero" (4:57)

Cocteau Twins- Milk and kisses

i know, i know, I'm jumping a few years here, and although i would love to post the entire discography here, i must allow you to seek your own treasure. Milk and Kisses was released around 96'. i have heard some say that this at this point CT had lost a lot of their edge but i don't really agree with that. i mean yes, the water here is a little calmer but its still very, very, maritime. I've read that this was one of the last albums to be done for the mercury label and i think they disbanded not to long after this release/tour. don't quote me on that tho. i have to say i don't think there are many voices that trump Elizabeth Fraser's. she is just beautiful in the way she sores. i would really love to hear her guest for Starflyer 59 or something. Tishbite is still my absolute favorite song on here but i love listening to the whole album. this makes for some amazing nighttime driving. Enjoy...
song list is as follows:

Cocteau Twins- Milk and kisses (1996 Mercury Records/Fontana)

01 Violaine
02 Serpentskirt
03 Tishbite
04 Half-gifts
05 Calfinskin Smack
06 Rilkean Heart
07 Ups
08 Eperdu
09 Treasure Hiding
10 Seekers Who Are Lovers

Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll

Blue Bell Knoll was released in 1988. i was in high school teetering between my love or metal and my secret love of shoegazer, new wave and goth. this was also the first one to hit the US for distribution. i love the opening song, "Blue Bell Knoll", as well as "carolina's fingers" and the amazing "For Phoebe Still a Baby". expect more beautiful vocals by Elizabeth Fraser, and amazing work by the rest of the band here. I'm not sure what i can say about this band that i haven't already said about them. these guys are so imaginative, so well thought out,so beautiful sounding, that you would do yourself a disservice by passing them up. take a chance on this band, you'll be glad you did. have i ever steered you wrong? i didn't think so.
song list is as follows:

Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll (1988 4AD Records, Capitol Records)

1. "Blue Bell Knoll" – 3:24
2. "Athol-Brose" – 2:59
3. "Carolyn's Fingers" – 3:08
4. "For Phoebe Still a Baby" – 3:16
5. "The Itchy Glowbo Blow" – 3:21
6. "Cico Buff" – 3:49
7. "Suckling the Mender" – 3:35
8. "Spooning Good Singing Gum" – 3:52
9. "A Kissed Out Red Floatboat" – 4:20
